"A Prophet for Our Time: The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist"
David Anderson is the rector of Church of Saint John the Evangelist and one of the priests who serve our community.
Saint John the Baptist is a unique figure in Christian memory, a hinge between the Old Testament prophets and the first Christians. John said, "[Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease." And so his birth is celebrated half a year before Jesus', just as the daylight in the northern hemisphere begins to wane. The church is called to the same prophetic ministry as John, pointing to Jesus and to the redemptive reign of God.
